Redesign Begins Next Phase of Hotel Improvements
NEW YORK – Oct. 15, 2011 – The Westin New York at Times Square recently completed a $1.6-million renovation of its ninth-floor meeting and event space, including seven meeting rooms and the New York Atrium, a total of 8,760 square feet. Under the direction of Jeffrey Beers International, the area was updated with the environment in mind, and the New York Atrium now includes a backlit wall and bi-level serpentine bar that can be used for social functions or a communal work area.
In keeping with the hotel’s environmentally-friendly values, the carpet, wall covering and wood doors are all made of recycled materials, and the LED lighting provides energy savings and reduces the property’s carbon footprint.
The dramatic, seven-story, New York Atrium and other ninth-floor rooms (Minskoff, Nederlander, New Amsterdam, Palace, Pearl, Plymouth and Royale) range from 600 square feet, accommodating groups as intimate as 16 in a U-shape set-up, to the 2,000 square-foot atrium that can hold a reception for 250 guests.
The redesign kicks off a series of upcoming renovation projects at the ten-year old hotel that will include the remainder of the meeting space, with the exception of the recently updated Majestic Ballroom, and guestrooms.
“These improvements ensure that we stay ahead of the curve,” said Terry Lewis, general manager. “We continue to offer the most up-to-date product with design that reflects the hotel’s commitment to environmentally-friendly practices, which is important to our meeting planners and guests.”
The Westin New York at Times Square boasts over 34,000 square feet of flexible meeting space featuring 32 meeting and breakout rooms, the atrium, and three ballrooms, ranging from 220 square feet to 3,500 square feet. There is also a 13-screen movie theatre, accommodating up to 526 people, connected to the hotel. All of the flexible meeting space features sophisticated and extensive audiovisual capabilities and full banquet and catering services. The property was first hotel in the state of New York to receive the GS-33 Lodging Properties Silver certification from Green Seal™, and the first Westin Hotel worldwide to earn silver status.
